A Legacy of Excellence in Flight Training

The Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) Training Centre had its formal inception in 1967 when the Department of Civil Aviation (today's CASA) granted approval for MAF to conduct flight training operations in Moorabbin, Victoria.

Over the years, the Training Centre expanded and moved from Moorabbin to Ballarat, and then to Cold Stream in Greater Melbourne, Victoria, before finally relocating to our present location in Mareeba, Far North Queensland, in 2015.

We are in magnificent location, with short flights east to the controlled air space of Cairns Airport, rainforest-clad mountains, and the Great Barrier Reef and islands of the Coral Sea, and the endless expanse of the great Australian outback a few minutes west. And as if that wasn't enough, Mareeba famously boasts "300 sunny days a year," which translates into minimal weather-related disruptions to our students' flying.

Our Mission

"With more than 70 years of remote area flying experience, we equip our students to excel in missions, international development and industry. We are passionate about impacting the world in Jesus' name."

Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is a global movement founded over 70 years ago, when a group of Christian World War II pilots shared a vision to use their aviation skills to help rather than harm, while spreading the transformational love of Jesus Christ. For countless remote communities across the globe, the arrival of one of our small aircraft symbolises help, hope and healing.
